Porsche Race to Shenzhen Update: Andreescu, Serena soar into Top 5

Newly minted US Open champion Bianca Andreescu has risen to No.4 on the Porsche Race to Shenzhen leaderboard, a four-place climb for the Canadian teenager.

The 19-year-old, who completed just one match between March and August due to a shoulder injury, is undefeated since returning to competition, lifting her maiden Grand Slam trophy in New York last week in stunning fashion – Andreescu’s third title following her successes in Indian Wells and Toronto.

Meanwhile, Serena Williams’s quest for a 24th major crown continues – but the American nevertheless received a boost of five places up to No.5 on the Porsche Race to Shenzhen leaderboard. Williams has reached the final of four of the seven Grand Slams she has contested since returning from maternity leave last year, and is the only player to reach multiple major finals this season, having also fallen to Simona Halep at the final hurdle at Wimbledon.

The rises of Andreescu and Williams displace Kiki Bertens from the elite eight: the Madrid and St Petersburg champion compiled just a 3-3 win-loss record during the summer hardcourt swing this year, falling in the third round of the US Open to Julia Goerges, and drops three places to No.9. However, there are significant upward moves for US Open quarterfinalists Elise Mertens, who is boosted five places to land at No.18, and Wang Qiang, who zooms up 12 spots to No.29.
