Madurai Kamaraj University sex scandal: Nirmala Devi faints in court | Madurai News


VIRUDHUNAGAR: Nirmala Devi, an accused in the Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) sex scandal case, fainted in a court hall at Srivilliputhur on Wednesday.
During the previous hearing, Devi and another accused, Karuppasamy appeared before the court while Murugan did not appear. Due to this, the case was adjourned to October 9. On Wednesday, all the three appeared before the court. When the judge started to read out the charge frame, Devi, Karuppasamy and Murugan denied the allegations and stated that a false case was registered against them.
The judge then directed them to appear before the court on October 23.
Few minutes later, Devi fainted inside the court hall. A few women police personnel led her out of the court room. Later, she was taken to Srivilliputhur government hospital.
Devi, who was an assistant professor at Devanga Arts College in Aruppukkottai, was arrested on April 16, 2018, after an audio clip of her luring girl students to give sexual favours to higher officials at MKU went viral on social media. After the case was transferred to the CB-CID, two more people Murugan, an assistant professor at MKU and Karuppasamy, a research scholar, were arrested.
