NEW DELHI: The federal government on Saturday determined to import one lakh tonnes of onion to regulate costs which have shot as much as about Rs 100 per kg within the retail market.
Whereas state-owned buying and selling agency MMTC will import onions, cooperative Nafed will provide the important thing kitchen objects within the home market. This choice was taken at a gathering of a committee of secretaries held on Saturday.
“The federal government has taken a choice to import one lakh tonnes of onion to regulate costs,” meals and shopper affairs minister Ram Vilas Paswan mentioned in a tweet.
The MMTC has been requested to import onions and make it obtainable for distribution within the home market, between November 15 and December 15 interval, he added.
Nafed has been directed to provide imported onions throughout the nation, the minister mentioned.
